MACREX 6 QUICK START
DEMONSTRATION VERSION
Version 6 is for DOS/Windows 3.1/3.11 users only.
If you have Windows 95, 98 or NT use Version 7.
Installation

Obtain a DOS prompt.

From Windows 95 use the Start menu, select Programs and then
MS-DOS

If your machine goes straight into Windows 3.0 or 3.11, Go to the
`Main' group and click on the MSDOS icon.

If you are using a plain DOS machine you won't have a problem!

If you have less than 2.5 megabytes free on your hard disk you will
need to install the program using the instructions for manual
installation.

Change to the directory into which you have previously downloaded v6demo.zip
and unzipped the MACREX files.
-
Type SETREX and press the <ENTER> key, the follow the
instructions on the screen to install MACREX.

If the installation program has instructed you to reboot the computer
-
In plain DOS press the <CTRL> <ALT> and <DEL> keys
together.

In Windows 3.1 first exit Windows and then press <CTRL> <ALT>
and <DEL>.

Obtain a DOS prompt again (see above). Start the program by typing MCX
TEST <RETURN> Press <RETURN> at all the prompts until
you get to the Main Menu. If you want, now press ? to get a brief
run-down on the main features of the program.

Read the Macrex tutorial (42 kbytes)
- separate document supplied with MACREX.
Always
* back up your index regularly by pressing B from the
Main Menu and following the instructions.
* sort the index before printing it out (this does not
apply to page number order files).
To set up the program for your own printer and word-processor
First time only:

Open any index - an empty one will do - by following 4 above.

At the Main Menu press P for Print. From the Print menu select O
for Optional printing features.

Press <CTRL>L, choose P for printer driver. If you are
asked if you want to delete all printer and word-processor replacement
codes press Y (yes). Next choose an appropriate printer definition file
from the list you are now shown, using F5 and the arrow keys. Highlight
the file you need, press <RETURN> twice and then press <ESCAPE>.
You are given the option to save this file as the default for all directories
(press H for home directory) or as default only in the directory
in which you are currently working (press C for current directory).

Follow the instructions in (3) above, substituting W for P.
