MACREX user support

UK office

The UK office in Blaydon is equipped with a dedicated phone line which can take messages while the phone is in use, a fax and email.  Email has recently become the favoured method of support since problem files can be sent directly to and from us.  We positively welcome queries and comments from users and can normally respond within a few hours.  We are also very interested in ideas for new features and modifications to the program, and our online discussion group acts as a valuable aid for this purpose.

We can often solve seemingly insuperable problems through discussion with users.  Macrex has so many features that it is impossible to expect anyone to absorb the full range available in the program at first sight.  If you have a problem, we have almost certainly come across it before, and have a way of solving it. If we have not, there is always the possibility of writing some new code to deal with it - since we are the programmers as well as the vendors this does not pose a problem.  The way we have chosen to describe concepts in the program (or in the manual) may not be the same as yours, and a detailed discussion may well be needed before an appropriate solution is reached.  We would suggest you always assume that any indexing problem can be solved - somehow - with Macrex - it's just a question of finding the part of the program where the problem is addressed.  The only way to find this out may be to ask us - so please don't ever hesitate to do so!

TRAINING, TUTORIALS, SEMINARS

We can provide tutorial support either in the North East of England (Blaydon is just outside Newcastle) or in London; we have a fully-equipped branch office in Camden Town, very close to the centre of London.  Alternatively, we can give on-site training to users in government departments, publishing houses and other businesses by arrangement.  We also regularly give workshops and seminars for members of the Society of Indexers.  The Society's newsletter, SIdelights, which appears quarterly, has a regular "Macrex tips" section, and our informal but close association with the Society is one of the most important contacts we have.  Click here to see a list of forthcoming training sessions and seminars.

THE MACREX NETWORK

The Macrex Network (Macrex users willing to help others in trouble) includes some of the country's most distinguished indexers. Contact us for details.

UPGRADE POLICY

We keep in close touch with all our users and regularly ask for their opinions on possible new features and ways of improving the program.  All ideas for modifications and new features are seriously considered and over the years nearly all of these have been incorporated into the program.  Upgrades from one version to the next are offered to all traceable users and are available to them at considerably reduced prices.
